
Rental Security Deposit Assistance
Program Overview
The Rental/Security Deposit/Utilities Program is designed to assist individuals and families with housing affordability and community stability. The program provides financial support for moving into a housing unit, covering the following expenses up to a maximum of $8,000:

First and/or last month’s rent

Security deposit
-
Utility connection or start-up fees
Eligibility Criteria:
The program is open to individuals and families who meet the following conditions:

Income Levels: Applicants must fall within the Very Low Income (VLI), Low Income (LI), or Moderate Income (MI) categories. Income limits are determined by family size and the income guidelines chart (attached).

Residency Requirement: Applicants must plan to reside in the City of Miramar.

Priority Groups: Priority is given to:

Persons with disabilities

Persons displaced by recent foreclosure
Important Restrictions:

Applicants are not allowed to rent from friends or relatives.

Assistance is available only for households renting from qualifying residential housing unit owners.

Housing units occupied by the owner or any individual with an interest in the unit are ineligible for assistance.
Program Guidelines:
These funds are part of the City of Miramar’s efforts to support housing affordability. Funds do not need to be repaid, except in cases where fraudulent information was provided to obtain assistance.
Instructions for Landlords
Landlords must agree to participate in the program and fulfill the following requirements:

Breakdown of Rent/Approval Letter The landlord must provide a detailed letter indicating:

Whether only the first month’s deposit is required, or both first and last months are required

The monthly rent amount

The number of bedrooms in the leased housing unit

Lease Agreement Applicants are required to submit a copy of the signed lease agreement.

Utility Deposit Assistance If assistance is requested for utility deposits, applicants must provide documentation such as a letter or communication from the utility company.

Required Forms Landlords must complete and submit:

A W-9 form
-
A City of Miramar vendor form (both physical and online versions). These forms must be submitted to Community Revitalization Affiliates Inc. (CRA).
